Bosques Amazónicos is an organization committed to ending the ongoing deforestation that is being carried out on the chestnut concessions in the Amazon side of Peru, located in the Madre de Dios area.
The construction of the interoceanic highway in Peru is bringing significant migration from the southern Andes. New migrants often occupy the land of concessionaires (who are the most vulnerable) to live in or create farming areas, which consequently, generates social tensions.
Besides, the Madre de Dios area has been devastated by intensive mining activities although some strategies to fight deforestation through the reforestation and planting of species such as chestnut trees are being performed in the area.
Bosques Amazónicos is an organization committed to ending the ongoing deforestation that is being carried out on the chestnut concessions in the Amazon side of Peru, located in the Madre de Dios area. The objective of this REDD project (United Nations program for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation) is the protection of 500,000 hectares of chestnut trees.
The project will reduce deforestation through three lines of activities:
- Improving the living conditions of the concessionaires and the value of their forests by implementing a processing plant for drying and peeling the chestnuts. This will allow the concessionaires to be able to sell products of a higher quality, obtain a greater proportion of the benefits by promoting a fair trade and generating enough resources to protect their forests.
- Implement a surveillance system that allows early detection of deforestation risks. This system must include control points and continuous patrolling in a context of participative tasks. This system must include control points and continuous patrolling in a context of participative tasks.
- Provide work opportunities for chestnut dealers through these activities during the 8 months of the year in which the collection work is not performed.
Thanks to your contribution to this project, a great area of forest in the Amazon will be preserved, you will help this ecosystem, seriously threatened, keep their balance for the benefit of the entire planet.
Besides, this project gives you the opportunity to contribute to offset your own carbon footprint since it has obtained a Verified Carbon Standard Certification which will allow the offset of 2000 tons of CO2.
